Cole Porter was at once the most transparent and opaque of American popular composers, giving his music a multi-layered complexity that often goes unappreciated. In a PowerPoint presentation that features lots of music, pictures and film clips, Dr. Phillip Atteberry, who teaches jazz history at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, will explore the multiple dimensions of Cole Porter. Particular attention is given to the scores of Anything Goes and Kiss Me, Kate! as well as Cole Porter's film legacy. Included are performances by Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Eleanor Powell, Frank Sinatra and others.
