Directed by Martin Scorsese and inspired by the novel The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, this film starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona , tells the story of wealthy lawyer Newland Archer, who is engaged to sweet socialite May Welland. On the surface, it is a perfect match, but when May's beautiful cousin Countess Ellen Olenska arrives in town, Newland begins to question the meaning of passion and love as he desperately pursues a relationship with Ellen. The Age of Innocence received critical acclaim, winning the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, and nominations for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Winona Ryder), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Art Direction.
